Women's U17 part of special football week

In the same week that UEFA EURO 2012 concludes, the Women's U17 finals in Nyon from 26 to 29 June feature Switzerland, France, Germany and Denmark with tickets and media accreditation available.

France are among the four finalists ©Digitalsport   UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, will play host to the UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship in the last week of June, as part of a special few days for football as UEFA EURO 2012 concludes. Tickets In the tournament at the Colovray Stadium, next to the headquarters of UEFA the semi-finals will be played on 26 June, with Switzerland facing France at 11.00CET and Denmark against Germany at 15.00CET. Three days later the third-place play-off will be at 11.00CET and live on Eurosport 2 before the final at 14.30CET, on Eurosport. The two finalists also join hosts Azerbaijan in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup from 22 September to 13 October. The ambassador of the final tournament is Switzerland forward Ramona Bachmann. She plays for FC Malmö, having featured twice in the UEFA Women's Cup final for Umeå IK. Bachmann also helped Switzerland to the 2009 UEFA European Women's U19 Championship semi-finals. Switzerland star Ramona Bachmann said: "Being selected for your country in an international tournament is the biggest honour a player can achieve. When I was younger, playing in the UEFA youth competitions was a goal I strived to achieve and being part of it lived up to all expectations. You play against the best and you find out how good you are." This season is the first time Switzerland have made the finals, held every year since 2008 in their home nation, beating England 1-0 to qualify. France have twice reached the final, losing to a last-gasp Spain goal last year. Spain's two-year reign was ended in the second qualifying round by Germany, who have made the finals on all five occasions, winning in 2008 and 2009, in the first of those editions beating Denmark in the last four. UEFA's continued commitment to women's football was underlined in June 2011 when the UEFA Executive Committee welcomed Karen Espelund as a member by invitation to the UEFA Executive Committee. Also chairwoman of the UEFA Women's Football Committee, she will present the trophy to the winning team at the UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship final ceremony on Friday 29 June. She said: "I am happy UEFA can offer top-class youth competitions such as the Women's U17 as a pathway to the elite level to players at this crucial stage in their development. UEFA's women's football competitions are constantly reaching new heights, as the incredible attendance of over 50,000 fans at the Women's Champions League final in Munich in May showed." UEFA will be hosting a pre-tournament press conference at its headquarters on Monday 25 June at 12.00CET at which the coaches of the finalist teams will be present.
