England Women Prepare

jueves 14 junio 2012 Previous page The England Women’s team converged on the North-West of the country on Monday as they enjoyed their first training session ahead of Sunday’s crucial Euro 2013 qualifier against Holland, which is being staged at Salford City Stadium. Goalkeeper Karen Bardsley is the only player who did not report for training, having fractured her finger and she will now miss the game. National Coach Hope Powell has no other injury concerns from her original 22-player squad.
The Dutch currently lead Group 6, five points clear of England although the Three Lions do have a game in hand. If Holland collect all three points they will seal automatic qualification to next summer’s Euro Finals, meaning this encounter takes on added importance for Powell’s charges.
The two sides drew 0-0 in Zwolle in October and striker Ellen White believes England can take heart from that showing.
“We have learnt from that game,” she said, “built on our performance out there and hopefully we can put in a good performance on Sunday and get the three points.
“There probably won’t be many chances in the game so when we get one we are going to have to take it.
“But I’m confident we can do it.”
